Cultural Exchange

Twelve international artists representing the fields of gastronomy, music, dance, and visual arts visited ESA and Acadiana as part of world languages teacher Celine Annerose's Conversations créoles/Creole talks project, an exchange between two French and Creole-speaking territories, Louisiana and Guadeloupe. Celine has received a grant to connect the artists with educators and students both here and in Guadeloupe to celebrate and learn about the similarities and differences between the cultures of the two areas. ESA students met with the artists both on campus and at Lake Martin, interviewed them, and documented the visit. Thanks to the ESA tour guides in Prof. Pierre Ros' G period French III class, and to guest filmmakers Olivia Perillo and Elizabeth McNabb, as well as to the artists for sharing their talents and culture. The visitors treated middle and upper school teachers and students to bokits (fried sandwiches), drumming, and dance during lunch on Friday.
