Charles Blanchard, ’21, visited physical science classes, where the freshmen were preparing for the cardboard boat project. Charles, a senior in naval architecture and marine engineering at the University of New Orleans, spoke to the students about his degree program and his internships at Incat Crowther, Bollinger Shipyards, and Conrad Industries, as well as his role as vice president of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers at UNO.
We asked Charles how ESA prepared him for college, and he shared, “At ESA, I learned the importance of prioritizing and managing my time effectively, which has been crucial in college. Whether balancing rigorous coursework or participating in extracurricular activities, the discipline I honed at ESA allows me to navigate these challenges with confidence. It helps me focus on the bigger picture and tackle more significant problems.”
A cross country runner at ESA, Charles says he still likes to run and work out, as well as hang out with friends.
His advice for future ESA graduates: “Trust the foundation that ESA has given you. The critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and discipline you’ve developed here will serve you well, not just in college but throughout your life. You’re stepping out into a world full of new opportunities and challenges, and ESA has equipped you with the tools to handle both.”
