Avery has been a Falcon since PK3. She plays volleyball just about all year round through ESA's volleyball and sand volleyball teams and her club volleyball team. ESA Coach Sara Robichaux has been one of her biggest inspirations as she has grown as an athlete. Avery is also a soccer player, a Student Council rep, and a member of the Med Science Club, the French Club, and the yearbook staff. She's looking forward to starting her own club this year.
Here's our Q&A with Avery:
What makes ESA a unique school to attend?
The connections you make at ESA are what make it such a unique school to attend. These connections with classmates, teachers and older and younger students have made me feel cared for and loved throughout my 13 years at ESA. I have these people and these connections to thank for the person I am today.
Who has inspired you as a learner?
My volleyball coach at ESA, Coach Sara, has been one of my biggest inspirations as I have grown as an athlete. She has believed in me ever since I was a young 6th grader and filled me with the confidence I've needed to succeed. I could not have asked for a coach more devoted and loving than her. She is exactly the person I aspire to be every day, not only in volleyball, but in my everyday life.
What has been your most challenging moment at ESA?
My biggest challenge at ESA that I still struggle with is finding a balance between social life, academics and sports. As I grow older, academics become increasingly time consuming, my social life becomes more important, and sports become mentally and physically taxing. Finding perfection in all three categories is near impossible and has been one of the biggest lessons I've had to learn. Although I still struggle with this balance today, I continue to work at it, leaning on my teachers, parents and friends for help because it's a balance you cannot find alone.
If you had a month to study anything in the world, what would you be passionate about learning?
For a month I would love to learn about sports medicine and/or sports psychology. I often dream about gathering my best friends together to travel around the United States on a road trip. We'd see national parks, visit beaches, and spend time enjoying each other's presence. They are the people who bring a great deal of happiness into my life so I would love nothing more than to go on an adventure together, exploring the country.
Thanks, Avery!
